Textile treats....

I managed to acquire some lovely old textiles recently....this pretty, floral chintz bag with loop handle.....

Old press stud fasteners keep it firmly closed....

Opened reveals a faded, green chintz interior.....

With super duper poppers!

Two long lengths ( over 7 metres ) of charming, 19th century French bed drapes.....

With a hand sewn frill to the bottom....that is going to take me ages to iron.

Gorgeous pillowcases with huge initials JP that I think will have to be secretly pressed into service in a Cloth Shed bedroom....

And finally....a large piece of unused black and white mattress ticking and a large feather filled cushion made from old Toile....

I love these pictorial fabrics with their tale to tell, however, I am not sure whether the boy is trying to move the donkey and cow along with the big stick or throw it for the dog to "fetch"....

Have a lovely week,
Back soon,
Julie x

  1. Hello Julie:
What a wonderful selection of fabrics you show here in terms of colour, texture and design. We love all of the slightly faded look which, we feel, fits so well into a 'shabby chic' interior.

Ticking, in our view, is a must, having recently had a day bed in the bathroom, our bed headboard and a bedroom chair covered in this material using black and white for the bathroom and dark blue and white in the bedroom. We are certain that you will put yours to excellent use.

  2. They are all beautiful textiles Julie.
Ironing of the bed drapes and pillowcases will certainly require patience and a good steam iron! A xx

  4. I do hope it is the latter .... would hate to think of the horse getting a battering! Gorgeous fabrics Julie and doesn't toile match beautifully with old English transferware china .... I wonder who inspired who first the potteries or the textile manufacturers. Happy ironing x

  5. lovely bag- just adore the single handle.

I love embroidered linens- I recently bought an Edwardian lace edged single sheet set/pillowslips, all white-on-white embroidered with the name DOROTHY...too cute for words...alas I'm going to have to join you in the laundering and ironing queue!

  6. Hello Julie
Both ticking and toile are among my favourites, although, I haven't thought too much about what is happening in the everyday scenes on my walls and cushions. Perhaps I ought to take a closer look.
